Bienvenido!

Welcome

This is a chronicle of our 2nd once-in-a-lifetime visit to the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador, S.A. in March of 2000. In the following pages you will find daily logs, maps and photos from our ten-day voyage among the islands.

There were seven of us on this adventure: Jack and Shirley, Susan and Patti, Bill, Scott and Deb. It is to Jack and Shirley that we heap Lavish Praises upon, as it is their efforts and insistence that their children experience these wondrous islands that brought us all together (again!).

The photographs have been collected from every camera in use on the trip. There was an almost infinite number to choose from! The log was developed and maintained by Susan (to the regular wonderment of the crew), and her descriptions of each day's explorations have elevated the story leaps above a mere glorious photo album.

Trailmaps are from the 1999 edition of The Galapagos Islands by Pierre Constant, a terrific source book (ISBN 962-217-580-5).

The format will be as you see here: Each page will have the daily log in the center section of the page, additional photos will be listed along the right side, and a link to the next day's entry will be at the end. The left side has links to each day's page along with a link to a map of the journey.

Sorry that we can't include the feel of the ship lunging into the waves, the soft pale blue glow from the bioluminescent waters after dark, the sounds of the frigate birds courting and the sealions squabbling, the scent of the Palo Santo trees, or the aromas from Alejandro's kitchen - you'll just have to pack your bags and go experience this place for yourself!
